I converted my basement into an Art studio, first project was hand dying socks.
Bamboo socks are so soft and right now a blank canvas to me...
money shot
Rocky the official snoopervisor of this project
The table I am using has a lot of history. Grandma Grace, Aunt Ginny & Aunt Joanie used to make fresh pasta, sauce and meatballs on this table, I am not a cook, but I am an artist just the same.
tied some of the socks, Rocky helped measure
I don't mind the stained hands, and double rainbow cuticles
I use only the best dyes, from Dharma Trading,
If you are going to spend the time in hand dying, it is wise to use the best dyes and blends out there.
These socks are a bamboo with a touch of spandex in them. Bamboo is very soft, the spandex helps keep the shape but too much of the synthetics, dyes won't take.
You don't have to "tie" to dye, I like the direct hand dye application look on the socks too.
I let these set and cure for 24 hours, rinsing and seeing how the socks came out is one of my favorite parts of the process, it is like Christmas opening up all the tied socks
open them,open them!
Rocky, snoopervising every step of the way, literally.
I used a wet sheet as a drop cloth while hand dying, I had planned to use it as a drop cloth for all my projects until I realized the pattern in the sheet, hence the shroud of sock sisters. I used this for my tags I designed for the socks. I folded the sheet 4 ways, so I have 4 prints of this, I will be getting them framed. I'm keeping both pairs on the end and will sell the 2 in the middle
tag I designed
hand sewn with love
These socks will be for sale to my sock sisters , they will be sold in local stores
They can be worn as over the knee, folded over to a knee high or worn scrunched to any length you like.
sold them all to my sock sisters.
I decided to make a "mama n me" line with matching socks for mama n child
makes you want to have another baby doesn't it?
